United Nations data provide one important benchmark against which to judge how much more or less opioid consumption might be appropriate for a given country. And what it finds about the United States is jaw-dropping: Even when the list is restricted to the top 25 heaviest consuming countries, the United States outpaces them all in opioid use.
For example, Americans are prescribed about six times as many opioids per capita as are citizens of Portugal and France, even though those countries offer far easier access to health care. The largest disparity noted in the U.N. report concerns hydrocodone: Americans consume more than 99 percent of the world’s supply of this opioid.
Jetzt sagen sicher viele das sind die Amerikaner, nur stimmt das nicht so ganz. In Amerika werden 50.000 Tagesdosen pro Million Einwohner täglich eingeworfen, Canada liegt mit knapp 31.000 Tagesdosen pro Million Einwohner auf Platz 2, dicht gefolgt von Deutschland auf Platz drei. Und wer meint das sei nicht bedenklich, Österreich liegt mit gut 22.000 täglichen Tagesdosen pro Million Einwohner auf Platz 6. Den letzten Platz auf der Liste belegt interessanter weise Griechenland.
Ich frage mich ja warum verwenden so viele Menschen Beruhigungsmittel, und was passiert wenn sie mal keine bekommen. Kommt es dann zur Revolte, ausgelost durch einen Valiummangel? Da fragt man sich doch wohin es die Welt führt.
